WOW! And contamination?
More than troubling. A real disaster. Perhaps a catastrophe!
As always, most timely now that we have a perfectly effective, lab-constructed little flu virus. One would even say: a well orchestrated effort. Somebody, somewhere must have REALLY taken the threat of Earth's population explosion most seriously, and we are full of approbatory sentiment for the hard thinking employed at the nebulous levels of power.
Great post and many thanks for following this huge event for a small country.
I can get you the paper and I have notified Homeland Security Today as to the problem. amanda jimenez
And by Jove, do NOT sail too close to rocks!
This reader disagrees with this author. The lowest irung is occupied by the 150 character long grunt of a tweet that nowadays rapidly becomes a part of the genetical code of the equally rapidly growing number of twits.
I disagree ... blog posts are often filled with more understanding of an issue and insight than many other forms of written communications ... blogs and micro-blogs also have this advantage: people read them ... they're short ... no one reads dissertations anymore ... so if nobody reads a paper ...it might as well not exist ...
There was an excellent presentation re the likelihood of urban earthquakes by a representative of the World Bank at the recent International Disaster Conference and Expo in New Orleans. The speaker made two important points:
• Just as coastal disasters are more likely because we are building on our coasts, urban earthquakes are more likely because more and more cities are located on faults. He cited Khartoum, and several of the new Chinese mega-cities as examples.
• We haven't learned how to tailor our humanitarian response to urban earthquakes as well as we have some other types of disasters.
I'll be posting a blog on the meeting next week on the CARRI site (blog.resilientus.org).
